Heated Bamboo Massage
This modality uses warm bamboo (or rattan) tools of different lengths and diameters. By varying depth of pressure, a skillful therapist can perform either a general energizing, rejuvenating, yet relaxing massage; or deep tissue and/or trigger point work. The penetrating warmth of the sticks makes deep tissue work more comfortable for the client, and the ease of application causes no stress and strain on the therapist’s body. When applied with slow, even strokes, the warmth of the bamboo can also provide the benefits of myofascial release. Because of its slickness, rice oil is used to provide a smooth surface for the sticks to glide over. The sticks are heated with a moist heating pad. Both the tools and heating pad are lightweight and easy to transport, and the sticks never get uncomfortably hot; making this “hand-saving” modality more portable and safer than hot stone massage. There will be plenty of “hands-on” practice time. Students will be instructed in a way that will allow them to tap into their own creativity.
Students need to provide 2 flat sheets, 2 bath towels, 2 pillow cases, rice bran oil.
